I've raised £25892 to Refurbishment of Squash Courts & Installation of energy saving insulation and LED lighting at Leyburn Community Leisure Club

Until August 2016 the club was privately owned and trading at a loss. Therefore the business was closed. In response to this the members formed a non profit community club and took over the fixtures and fittings of the club. We have recently gained CASC status. Having reduced gym membership fees and the cost of hiring courts, the club has been very successful and more use is being made of the facilities. The main reason that the club has become viable is that members do all the work themselves on a voluntary basis, so staff costs are zero. In addition costs such as accountancy, are being done on a voluntary basis. We will use our members surplus in full to contribute towards the project. We currently have members from Leyburn, Wensleydale, Richmond, Catterick and Swaledale, so most of the Richmondshire area, we have the only publicly accessible squash courts in the whole of Richmondshire. With improved facilities we can attract more members and they will benefit from improved health and wellbeing.
We currently have a flourishing junior section, some players are ranked in the country at their age group, with improved facilities we hope to attract more juniors into the sport and in turn help the long term sustainability of the club. The courts are also rented out to fitness groups who do circuit training and fitness sessions on a regular basis, they will benefit from new sprung floors which are important for avoiding injury whilst exercising, we provide a much loved and used facility in a rural community and would like to improve upon that. This is a project to replace the old wooden floors of 3 squash courts, hack off and re plaster the front walls, repaint the side walls, replace the front tins and remark all the courts. Whilst doing this we will fit new insulation to the ceilings where we currently lose a lot of heat and also fit new LED lighting to all 3 courts. These last 2 items will hopefully reduce our energy consumption considerably over a year as we currently pay around £8.5K a year in gas and electric, the majority of which goes towards heating and lighting the courts.
