I have been battling for my family's human rights and autonomy for the last ten years within the court-of-protection, simply because my now adult son has complex additional needs, I've been a single mother with a visual impairment on a fixed income (at a disadvantaged position) yet outspoken in advocating for my son's wishes, feelings and our rights - refusing to shut up and maintain "my place" of inferiority within the pecking order. I have worked tirelessly in moving mountains to give him a better quality of life, only just managing to get him out of the situation of stagnancy, isolation and institutionalized environment where he lost the formative years of his adult life. While litigation has finally come to an end, it hasn't been the best result, as my family will still have a whole layer of 'control' hanging over us and most crucially, the local authority want to retain appointee-ship for his financial affairs treating me as a criminal with no evidence of any wrong-doing. I cannot get legal aid for making an application within the COP or an application to court, so please consider helping us to retain the last bastion of control and human rights just outside of our grip. The state want a full choke-hold on my family, but this last area of my son’s life, access to his own finances 'MUST BE CHALLENGED! Please help with as much or little as you can.
