Helping Restore Dignity Through Compassionate De-Matting Care ❤️

At Serenity Loves, we provide specialist professional de-matting and detangling services for people whose hair has become severely matted.

But we've learned that this is about so much more than hair.

The people who reach out to us are often going through some of the most difficult periods of their lives. We've supported people affected by mental health struggles, grief, illness, disability, trauma, overwhelming life circumstances and periods where simply looking after themselves has become impossible.

We've also seen how unexpectedly and quickly severe matting can sometimes happen.

Whatever the reason, nobody who contacts us will ever be judged.

For many people, by the time they ask for help their hair is causing physical pain and discomfort. They may have stopped leaving their home, seeing friends or family, attending appointments or allowing anyone to see their hair.

Some have spent months hiding what is happening.

And many believe their only option is to shave or cut their hair off.

We want people to know there may be another option.

Why are we fundraising?

Professional de-matting is incredibly labour-intensive. A severe case can take many hours — and sometimes several full days with more than one member of our team working simultaneously.

Unfortunately, this means the cost can become a significant barrier for the people who need our help most.

That's why we created the Serenity Loves De-Matting Support Fund.

Money raised through this page will help us provide fully or partially subsidised specialist de-matting services to people experiencing genuine financial hardship.

Where appropriate and funds allow, donations may also help towards essential costs associated with accessing treatment, particularly for people who have to travel a significant distance to reach us.

Every £1 donated contributes towards the specialist time and care required to help somebody who may otherwise feel they have no option but to cut their hair off.

As funds are raised, we will continue to use them to support people who approach us for help, prioritising those experiencing genuine financial hardship and particularly difficult circumstances.

There is no shame in matted hair.

One of the biggest reasons we share these stories is to challenge the stigma surrounding severe matting.

It is very easy to look at matted hair and assume someone simply hasn't brushed or washed it.

The reality can be very different.

Behind the hair can be grief. Depression. Disability. Illness. Trauma. Caring responsibilities. Neurodiversity. Postpartum struggles. An unexpected medical situation. Or simply a period when life became too overwhelming.

Nobody should be made to feel ashamed for reaching a point where they need help.

And nobody should be frightened to walk through a salon door because they're worried about what somebody might think.
