Story
Hi everyone.
I'd really hoped I'd never have to do anything like this, but unfortunately desperate times call for desperate measures.
One of our dogs, Hope, has been suffering with a lump on her back leg for a few months now.
In the beginning, we thought it was a hotspot or allergy, and the vets treated it as such. She was given antibiotics, anti-itch medication and steroid ointments, but over time it's just gotten larger and uglier.
Today (Feb 10 '25) she's been to have a sample taken as it's grown significantly over the last few days and has begun to smell. The vets have told us on inspection that they suspect cancer.
While we won't know the full extent of the mass until the results come in (5-7 days) we have been warned of two possible outcomes.
Either the mass is on the surface and can be surgically removed (with a long healing period due to the size), or the mass is muscular, in which case her leg will need to be amputated.
Regardless of the outcome, she will have a long and painful recovery ahead of her, and depending on what's needed, her initial bills will likely set us back £1000+
Unfortunately, as a romanian rescue dog with mutilated ears and tail, we've been unable to insure her, we are fully responsible for her treatment costs.
We don't expect any help at all, and we don't want other people to feel obligated to pay for our responsibilities. No matter what happens, she'll get the treatment she needs, but any help that you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Hope is around 8-9 years old. We took her in nearly 6 years ago. And while we've given her the best life we possibly can till now, we want to make sure that she's comfortable for the years she has left.
Thank you so much,
Love Dean, Andy, Lexi and Hope.
