Story
Friends of Aberdeen’s Vulnerable are a group of ordinary folk that has been operating since 2 January 2016 trying to make a small difference to anyone in Aberdeen that is struggling with homelessness or has no fixed abode. A regular question that we get asked is, "How can I help?"
Well, the group meets twice a week on a Wednesday from 7.00pm to approx. 9.30pm and Saturday from 7.30pm to approx. 10.00pm whereupon our dedicated team of volunteers distribute things such as warm, homemade soup, sandwiches, tea, coffee, snacks, high energy drinks and warm clothing such as hats, scarves, gloves and hand warmers to the vulnerable people on the streets. We also distribute dog food, dental sticks and dog coats.
We have had 4 pop-up kitchens since the group started with a fun and friendly atmosphere, providing a 3 course meal of hot, home-cooked food and drinks where the vulnerable of Aberdeen can have a good time and receive clothes, hand warmers and toiletries that are kindly donated.
The group also distributes food hampers and food parcels from excess donations to rough sleepers, Tillydrone Community Flat, Seaton Start Flat, Seaton Community Project, Alcohol and Drugs Action and 6 homeless shelters in Aberdeen.
In the last year, the group has also enabled 2 people to end their time living on the streets and are assisting them to make a fresh start and to receive much needed help and support – an achievement in itself!
Of course, the group would cease to operate without the help of dedicated volunteers, so if you feel that you can spare some time to help with any of the above, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
We are looking to get funds to do a pop up kitchen and a big soup thermos along with many other things,so please help us to make a difference to someone's life.
