I've raised £500 to complete an extension at the Dream of Africa shelter in Accra, Ghana. To give more safe space for the many orphans they help.

Story

The Dream of Africa care foundation is an amazing charity, setting up shelters to provide a safe home to orphaned and abandoned children.

I was lucky enough to be able to volunteer there recently and spent weeks getting to know the incredible volunteers and children. The children range from 9 months to 16 years old and when I arrived there were 26 children, although by the time I left the number had swelled to 39, each one with their own sad history of how they arrived at the shelter.

At the shelter they have access to schooling, healthcare, proper meals, sanitation, security and affection for the first time in many of their lives. It's absolutely lifechanging for them and incredibly rewarding for the volunteers. Sadly it's also heartbreaking, knowing there are always more children that need to come to the shelter and there currently isn't enough room.

So before I left, work started on an extension, aiming to create enough space for another 20 children. There are currently volunteers there that have the experience and knowledge to complete the extension but unfortunately the funds for materials have run out. So I am turning to crowd funding to try and help, we need to buy bricks, timber, cement, cabling, tiles and everything else required to get the project completed.

A cup of coffee costs on average £2.50. Ten bricks in Ghana costs £2.10. Could you swap one for the other and help us on this fund raising mission please? Every penny counts. Thank you for reading!
