    Story

    Well here goes....
As some of you may know I have been extremely unwell recently.
I have post traumatic stress disorder due to things in my past. Just a few days after my 31st birthday I found in couldn't live any more and took a very serious overdose.
I don't remember much after that other than what my family and the doctors and nurses have told me.
I was placed on life support to keep me alive and had something which is named proning where I was placed on my stomach for 18hrs a day to reduce the pressure on my lungs as they had becone extremely unwell due to aspiration.
Whilst I was on life support my family were called in to think about switching the life support machine oft because the treatment was not working and I was becoming more poorly. Thank God my strong brave family decided not to turn the life support off because 3 weeks later I woke up! At this point I had been given a tracheostomy to continue to help me breath via the ventilator but I was awake! Over time I built up my strength and managed to get out of bed and stand up for around 5 seconds before my legs gave way because they were so weak from not being used for nearly a month. But over the next week or so I worked hard with the physios and was able to walk short distances. Now it was time to breath with out the tracheostomy which was both scary but relieving as I couldn't talk with the tracheostomy in so couldn't communicate my graditude to my family, the doctors and nurses and physios who'd all helped get me to this point. My next part of the journey was to be a inpatient in a mental health unit. This is where staff helped me to overcome some of my problems such as flashbacks and nightmares. They worked with me along with a therapist to talk through some of the issues I'd been facing and help me become mentally strong again. Yep there are still up and down days but I'm alive and thankful for that.
I'd like to raise as much as posible to show my graditude to all those who have helped me.
