Community Organisations and Eco products vs Industry
While corporations depend heavily on shareholders profits, expansion, bulk, speed, global distribution and built in obsolescence, the planet suffers.
Over consumerism needs to stop, and lifestyles enhanced. In order to do things differently we need to think and Do everything differently, change and expand neuro pathways in the brain, make it rewarding and financially viable.
The recycling / re-use problems
For simplicity this system focuses on the reuse of timber. Other reclaimed materials may be introduced into the model in the future.
There is an abundance of 'waste’ reusable timber throughout the UK, and in most cities.
The problem used to be the storage and transportation of the timber, so community enterprises places like the Re-makery, Maker Space, and Hackspace etc. set up. Integral organisations and at the fore of the re-use industry, and it is on those shoulders this concept stands. In the long therm however, this led to an abundance of sources offloading their waste onto these organisations, and in the main there it sat, apart from the odd funded art projects, semi skilled enthusiasts and bonfire night, the timber could remain there for months.
It appears that not much research as to which 'waste' to accept or not to accept has gone into the requirements of the end users, and the space can quickly become a hoarding patch, attracting the like.
The above situations have arisen from a generic lack of local practical skills, not only in making and tool use, but also in the process of planning and designing. Drawing is an international language, it is a part of the planning, imagination, and design thinking process, as is model making. The basics of sketching, scaling, modeling and design thinking need to be taught for a holistic resolution.
I have a constant standard sized timber supply, a workshop to teach but require a number of hand and some power tools.
