Story
Active with Parkinson's Cambs (AWPC) provides specialised exercise classes for People with Parkinson's in a fun, caring and supportive environment. We aim to provide an appropriate class for whatever stage of their PD journey someone may be. So that we leave no-one behind we recently started a seated class for those with more advanced Parkinson's, which by necessity has to be small in number, but which means it requires a high level of subsidy.
Paul Goddard, a Neurological Rehabilitation Therapist with a wealth of experience and who specialises in exercise programmes for People with Parkinson's, is our instructor for all our classes and delivers his own unique exercise programme called PD Challenger, as well as Nordic Walking, TaiChi for Wellbeing and our Seated class.
Paul (or Mr G as we call him!), together with a fantastic team from our Nordic Walking class (both PD and non-PD) comprising Tony Jeffreys, Robert and Janice McClure, Polly Osborne, David Perks, Christine Regester, Marjorie Smith, Erica Clark, Barbara Black, Jim Tanburn, Alastair Anderson, David Mason, Stan Quantrill and Lesley Gordon will be walking the Sawston Fun Run route (either the long or short version of 4.6 or 2.4 miles) on Sunday 12th May 2024.
We achieved our initial target of £500 so quickly - thanks entirely to all your brilliant support and incredible generosity - so the provision of our seated class this year is now assured. Having achieved that we shall continue onwards and upwards for year 2 - as it costs £6k to provide. Your support to ensure costs are covered for this much needed exercise class means everything to those that need it. Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts. www.awpc.org.uk
