Story
As I write this I am sat by my dads bedside at the hospital. He has been given hours / days left to live. I have been here every day for the past week and day and night for the past 4 days and will continue to do so. I am self employed. I have no savings. If I dont work I dont get paid. But dont get me wrong, there is nowhere else on this earth I would choose to be right now except for by my dads side. But it has got me thinking. How many people have been in this situation? How many people have had to choose to say an early goodbye to a loved one, knowing that they will never see them again, but if they dont then bills wont get paid, food could be an issue, losing a home could be a reality. So, whilst Ive been sat here with this wonderful man, to help keep my mind distracted, I have created GEOFF (after my dad of course!). Giving Everyone Opportunity For Farewells. GEOFF will become a charity set up to assist those who are already going through a truly terrible time without the added stress of money and bills on top because they are self employed or have used up all their paid holiday!
A minimum income of £5000 per year is needed before you can register an organisation as a charity so we have a way to go before we get to that point. Fundraising is initially needed to get this off the ground. If you are able to make a one of payment please do so through this page. If you are able to commit to a regular donation then please contact me and il give you the needed details. If you cant help financially just now then please help to share the word around. This first money will allow me to get a website, logo, branding, advertising and marketing started. Once all the basics have been covered and we have a regular income I will then need a couple of trustees to come along side me. So perhaps you could have a think if you have any relevant experience or skills to come on board with me.
