Story
On December 13, 2017, a great man passed away. He was loved by thousands. Almost 11 years ago Dee started a Facebook support group for people with narcolepsy, it was called Narcolepsy Friends. Even though it was a closed group Dee let in thousands. He befriended and helped practically every individual member. Those members remember Dee with loving thoughts and respected him in a way that not many can ever hope to be respected.
Dee lived his life to the fullest. He didn't let narcolepsy and cataplexy stand in his way. He made video after video of what it was like to live with this devastating, debilitating disorder. He had videos of him walking his dog, going for walks, playing his guitar, never able to go very far before a sleep attack or cataplexy attack would take him to the ground. But he would get right back up and start again.
Dee put up with a lot because of narcolepsy and cataplexy. He told me some heartbreaking stories. He told me how when he would fall down from a cataplexy attack he had been kicked in the stomach, head, back, and groin. He had been spat on and urinated on. Most people would've just given up. Not Dee, he just kept going. Helping others, while dealing with some of the worst narcolepsy and cataplexy I'd ever seen. He almost always remained cheerful.
Through his T.V. documentaries and his videos, he gave strength to thousands more to go on with their lives even though they suffered from narcolepsy. (Search for Mr Sleepy on YouTube or Dee Daud.) I know he gave me strength every day. I don't begin to have N w/C nearly as bad as Dee had it. But there he was, always offering encouragement and strength even as he struggled through.
I know I am not the only one that he touched. However, I can only say how he touched me personally. He gave me the willpower to start my own support groups and to advocate for people with narcolepsy, PWN.
