Story

*UPDATE* Welcome to our new Just Giving page. We have previously raised over £13K which has allowed us to produce banners, distribute information leaflets, run update events and engage the services of a specialist Planning Consultant, amongst other things.

Deeside Against Pylons (DAP) is a community action group campaigning shoulder-to-shoulder with neighbouring groups to stop Scottish and Southern Electricity Network (SSEN) installing 68 metre high pylons along a 70 mile long corridor from Tealing to Kintore.

These monster pylons (twice the height of standard pylons) will carry 400 kv transmission cables. These overhead power lines will transport power generated offshore to south of the border in an ill-conceived, profit-driven project which will desecrate beautiful countryside, be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the communities in its path, destroy thriving farming in the area, in effect end tourism on Royal Deeside, and have a catastrophic impact on the local and Scottish economy.

We are not campaigning to move this project to another unsuspecting community. We are campaigning to urge SSEN to take these high voltage cables with their dangerous electromagnetic fields underground or subsea using existing technology already employed by other UK power companies and their European counterparts.

We have a fight on our hands. Deeside Against Pylons Action Group is working tirelessly on behalf of the community.

With the funds raised to date we have been able to engage the services of a specialist Planning Consultant who has been heavily involved with objections to wind farms and transmission lines in Scotland. He has already given his powerful views on questioning the basic needs for the whole development.

Should the Aberdeenshire Council accept our objection and concur, a Public Inquiry will be triggered which will require further expensive legal expertise.

Full details of the work of Deeside Against Pylons and regular updates can be found on our webpage Deeside Against Pylons or follow us on Facebook @ Deeside Against Pylons.

Please donate what you can to help stop the North East of Scotland, rich in history and beauty, deteriorate into an industrial wasteland for the benefit of SSEN shareholders.

Every donation helps and with thousands of peoples' lives, homes, businesses, health and house values set to be hugely impacted along the route we hope to reach our ambitious target!

Any funds remaining at the end of the campaign will be donated to charities identified by the community.
