Story

It's well known that our emergency services are under more pressure than ever before. It's critical that we ensure we can do everything we can to help not only the emergency services but our own families. Heart disease is one of the biggest killers in Scotland. What would you do if it was your loved one; son; daughter; wife or husband that had a sudden cardiac arrest. We all know we should dial 999 and ask for an ambulance. Some us know how to do CPR. However we can do more. We now have defibrillators which can help shock the heart into starting again after it's stopped. It's vital that someone who is in critical need gets this treatment as soon as possible. Unfortunately the reality is we are no longer guaranteed to get an ambulance in good time. The police may arrive but they do not carry defibrillators. This is why Plains Community Futures hope to raise enough funds to install a defib in a secure cabinet on the outside wall of the community centre on Main Street Plains. This would be available to anyone requiring it. The code would be given out via 999 whilst asking for an ambulance. The defib when used will give clear instructions and diagnose wither the patient should be given a shock. It is easily used and a life saving bit of kit. Even if it's only used once then it could save a life. This would save the pain of losing a loved one.
So please support your community and ensure we are all better protected against heart attacks. Every pound counts to achieving the amount needed.
