    Story

Sadly a few years ago my grandad started showing early signs of dementia. As a family we all though it was just old age. After a few long weeks and months passed, it was certain my grandad had dementia. We knew it was a long term illness.

After a few years went by, it got worse and worse :( I used to hear my mum say "I've said goodbye to my dad along time ago, and that theirs nothing we can do about it." As i was young at the time i didn't quite understand what was happening and just thought it was old age.

It crushed me... To see such a healthy and active man from being him self, being able to walk upstairs and get himself ready, to being helped with everyday small tasks was sad.

I used to hear all these stories of him in the war [WWII] and seeing some of the photos of him when he was younger, it was sad to see my own grandad suffer with this illness.

From the very beginning his memory, then body was starting to slowly shut down. He became less mobile and independent. He didn't like getting help but had to accept it from the people around him. Weather that be family, friends or carer's.

It happened slowly and that the worse thing about it. It shows signs at the beginning and then gets worse over time. Its a long, hard disease and there is currently no cure for it. It was stressful for the family and especially on my mum. My mum has been there for everything and cared so much as we all do. Sadly thought my grandma has the same disease, but it has impacted her so much more worse.

There is no cure for this horrible disease accept raise awareness and help fun the research for a cure.

So help me to raise an awesome £500 for this incurable disease which is effecting so many peoples, and family's lives!!
