Story

Global Action India Expedition 2019

In the summer of 2019, I (along with other students) will be journeying across the globe to visit some of India’s oldest civilisations, gaining a learning experience like no other, as we discover India’s palaces, monasteries and temples. The aim of the project is to work alongside Tibetan refugees on an important poverty reduction project, arranged with Global Action and local charities in India.

We’ll directly support some of India’s local communities through charities such as: the UK and Indian ‘Tong Len’ charity, which aims to improve health in slums, and the ‘Tibetan Children’s Village’ charity, which educates 3000 young orphans and refugees. We will assist on this high-impact poverty reduction programme by building a new children's hostel, a greenhouse providing a healthy diet, or a clean drinking water system.

We will also be helping 2 women’s cooperatives on social integration projects, and supporting 3 monasteries and nunneries to improve living conditions for Tibetan monks and nuns.

Additionally, we will experience unique workshops in the Himalayas to learn about: sustainability, globalisation, water resources, Tibetan culture, medicine, Fair Trade and enterprise, women's empowerment, and the protection of endangered culture.

This is an invaluable opportunity for me and my team as it gives us a chance to support a cause much bigger than ourselves, whilst gaining deep insights into India's culture as we learn along the way.
