Story

Denis Pye, who died earlier this year, was a lifelong socialist and central figure in the recent history of Bolton Socialist Club. Without Denis's undiminished commitment the club would almost certainly have ceased to exist. Denis was also a historian and author with a vast knowledge of political struggle, particularly in Bolton and the North West. He was the author of "A History of Bolton Socialist Club" and "Fellowship is Life - the story of the National Clarion Cycling Club," which is the seminal reference text for this organisation. Denis himself was a great cyclist and frequent visitor to the Clarion Tearoom at Roughlee, and a memorial bench in the grounds would thus make a fitting tribute to the memory of our great comrade. Any surplus raised will be donated to a charity of his wife Wendy's choosing.
