    Story

Despite having a full time job and a family with two young children Andrea Huszar devotes her life to rescuing dogs from the kill shelters and streets in Romania.

Andrea is one of the most devoted, brave and inspirational people I have ever had the honour to know. She is fearless when it comes to taking on government authorities and never gives up trying to change things and improve animal welfare in Romania.

Andrea struggles every single month to raise money to keep the dogs healthy, well fed, and safe. Often using money from her own pocket to try to pay bills and meet the needs of all the dogs that she has in her care.

It costs 900 euros a month to buy the 1250 kilos of dry dog food just to meet the dogs basic food needs, and then there are vet bills for sick and injured dogs, many of these dogs have suffered unbelievable cruelty at the hands of the people who are supposed to care for them, they are starved, beaten and abandoned to be run over and killed or injured and left by the roadside, or to be caught by the dog catchers and taken to the public shelter or kill shelter as it is called.

Once the dogs are caught by the dog catcher they have just two weeks to be claimed, otherwise they are killed, not in the humane way you would hope, but in some of the most cruel and inhumane ways imaginable.

Andrea visits the shelters on a regular basis to reserve dogs, she pays the release fees and the transports them to her private shelter where they are fed and looked after until they can find homes, she works very closely with the UK charity SOS Romania South West who re-home and foster many of her dogs and help greatly with funding for the dogs in Andrea's care.

The shelter is currently at full capacity, this means that Andrea is unable to rescue any more dogs until some are re-homed or fostered, making space for more dogs. Money is desperately needed for food, vet bills, building materials to provide warmer enclosures and kennels to provide shelter from the harsh winters, and even the most mundane things like buckets, food bowls and disinfectant.

Every month is a battle to survive and to keep these dogs safe, healthy and fed.

Please help, any amount, no matter how small will make such a difference and if you can manage a small monthly commitment it means that the dogs can rely on your money every month.

Thank you for taking the time to read this far, and thank you in advance for your help.

I just wanted to send you all some news! Andrea has saved every dog in the Petroșani public shelter, the shelter will close at the end of the month, but the dogs are all safe! She has been working towards this since 2009. The building of more runs and kennels is already underway and I have sent £1025 to Andrea from your donations to help towards this and anything else she needs with the extra dogs she now has to look after. I will continue fundraising here so that she always has some money in reserve for times like this. Thank you all so much

Last year we raised over £1000 in just two months to help Andrea and her dogs to buy a new van. Thank you so much! <3 We are now able to accept monthly payments here on the Just Giving page and I'm asking everyone to please give up just one cup of coffee, one beer, one something a month, and pledge the money to Andrea instead. If only 100 people do this that's an extra £400 a month to help Andrea improve conditions for the dogs and pay veterinary bills etc. Will you take the pledge for 2019? Wishing you all a blessed 2019. Much love. Fiona <3

I'm helping Andrea to raise money to pay food, vet bills and new kennels for the dogs she has under her care in her private dog shelter in Romania. Without the shelter, most of these dogs would die either in the public kill shelters or abandoned at the side of the road.
