Benjamin's Story as told in the Derby Telegraph : -

A young Derby boy's long-running battle with aggressive cancer has reached a critical stage, leaving him in need of overseas treatment costing around £100,000 to boost his survival chances.

Benjamin Topley's four-year fight with AML (acute myeloid leukemia) began two weeks after his fifth birthday in January, 2017.

Benjamin, who lives in Allenton, has since undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. He has been on the road to recovery on five separate occasions before relapsing again.

Benjamin gets bravery beads every time he goes through a procedure in hospital, and has so far got more than 2,000 of them.

Now aged nine, he suffered a full relapse in March and is currently undergoing another round of chemotherapy. He is due to have a second bone marrow transplant at Sheffield Children's Hospital later this year.

But his mum Kelly Topley says consultants have told her the bone marrow transplant may only give Benjamin a 25% survival rate.

She has found a treatment called CAR T-cell therapy, which is currently unavailable to acute myeloid Leukemia patients in the UK, but could increase her son's survival chances.

It is being offered at Sheba Medical Center, in Israel, a leading medical centre in the Middle East.
