My name is Shirley and Alan is my friend! Unfortunately Alan had a stroke a few years ago which has resulted in him living with the effects of a brain injury. One of the problems with his recently acquired accommodation is that there is a lack of parking. This is a big problems for Alan as his anxiety becomes heightened when he has to go out in his car due to him worrying about whether or not he is going to be able to park his car close enough to his home when he gets back. This has a big impact on his life as it spoils any enjoyment he may get from a trip out and means he is constantly anxious, which then escalates into short temperedness and extremes of emotional behaviour. This is not pleasant for Alan or anyone else he may come into contact with during his outing.

Alan has been given outline permission to have a driveway put in at his home but this is going to cost a fair amount of money - upwards of £5000. Whilst Alan will do his very best to raise as much as this as he can, the problem is more urgent than his ability to raise the amount needed!

For this reason, I am asking for your help. If you can spare any amount - however small (smallest donation is £2) please do consider donating to help Alan get his driveway installed.

Alan is always doing things for other people - he is always raising awareness of the effects of brain injury due to some of the treatment he has experienced recently and in finding out that it is not uncommon for others to have similar experiences. Alan has started a Facebook group - Brain Injury Awareness UK - in the hope that raising awareness will help to ensure that people who live with a brain injury are treated fairly and not discriminated against because of the way they are due to the brain injury.
