Story

In June 2021, my husband and I received the devastating news that at 27 weeks our baby’s heart had stopped beating, in that moment our world crashed around us and we were overwhelmed with grief. On the 7th June our beautiful daughter Saorla was born at peace in the Snowdrop Room within the Royal Victoria Hospital.

The Snowdrop Room is dedicated to the delivery of stillborn babies and the care of the grieving parents; it was here we spent priceless time with our daughter Saorla. We were able to hold her in our arms, sing her our favorite songs and read stories to her. She was placed in a cuddle cot between our beds and our family where able to visit and surround her with love.

The Midwives and staff of the RVH maternity provided us with incredible care, advice and compassion. They created a haven for us during our time of need and the love they showed will stay with us forever. We received further support from dedicated charities such as SIMBA who provided a memory box, a professional photographer from Remember My Baby and books donated by parents who had sadly lost their precious baby. The importance of this room can never be understated nor can the care we received be surpassed. The Snowdrop Room allows families precious time to spend with their baby and create cherished memories.

Our wee Saorla never had the opportunity to leave her stamp on this world, so we are asking for your help in creating a legacy for her. We would like to raise money for the Snowdrop Room and the charities which assist the midwives in providing a little haven for the families going through such a tragic time.

Along with family and friends we will be participating in a series of Charity events including the London Marathon, SANDS 310,000 step challenge and Saunter for Saorla. Saunter for Saorla is a 257 mile walk a mile for every baby lost in Ireland in a year.
