This is Alex! Our sunshine! Our little angel!

Long story short – he was born prematurely; the birth was problematic and due to complications; the doctors had no other options but to use a vacuum to pull him out. The little man was tiny but perfect! We were one happy family of three – Alex, mum and grandma. Alex’s dad has never shown any affection towards him!

After his second birthday we began to observe changes in all aspects of his development. We were concerned that Alex’s fine motor skills were delayed as he still wasn’t pronouncing a single word by age 3 years. As his family we couldn’t wait for answers and prayed for Alex to overcome his problems, therefore we started seeking answers from specialists.

Alex had to undergo numerous bouts of consultations and tests, including an EEG (electroencephalogram) which showed the cause of his delayed fine motor skills and revealed the reason for his condition – he sustained a brain injury during birth.

The neurologist who performed the EEG (electroencephalogram) has concluded that the left hemisphere of Alex’s brain responsible for reproduction of language (speech centre) has been injured

The EEG localised the sources of the cortical slowing visible in Alex’s EEG, with the left temporal and parietal lobe in Brodmann areas 20, 21, 22, 40 and 41. These areas represents key nodes of the language understanding and production network in the human brain. In addition, it revealed disrupted functional connectivity (hypo – coherence) between the two hemispheres of Alex’s brain, suggesting disrupted inter- hemispheric communication and deficient integration of incoming information.

Another fundamental cause which influences Alex’s condition turned out to be a gut dysbiosis. For those that don’t know what this is, simply put it as imbalance of gut microbiota associated with an unhealthy outcome. Dysbiosis can lead to a leaky gut, which allows bacteria and toxins in the bloodstream causing inflammation of the brain.

Our little boy was living in his own world, he had lost eye contact, he would not see us, he would not respond to his name, always preferred to stay alone. He was waking up at night, crying, being in pain, not being able to explain as he cannot talk. My heart was broken! His only friend was a baby pillow!

He had a limited diet. He wouldn’t eat food, but he will chew non-edible stuff like cables, chargers, clothes, small stones etc. He would have tantrums as he wasn’t able to communicate his needs, he did not have any understanding. Our little boy was getting worst, and we were desperate to find out a way to help him.

Alex undergone treatments aimed at achieving balance in the gastrointestinal tract, improving the general state of health, and modelling the immune system.

We strictly followed the instructions given by the specialists and started to notice changes – he came out of his shell, started to smile, make eye contact, learned to ride a scooter / bicycle. He loves swimming, and following a simple instruction was not an issue anymore. All these small steps forward are a huge progress for us! He’s attending a specialist school and the teachers also had stated that he has made an accelerated progress which is more than one year’s worth, just for a few months! We finally have seen a light in the tunnel!

The last two years were difficult for our family. We were on the verge of despair, full of tears, but never lost our hope! Thanks to your help and your kind donations Alex has a chance to get closer to his full recovery.

Following medical consultations with few clinics, we have chosen to go for a treatment in Angel’s Hope in Mexico. Based on Alex’s EEG (encephalogram), Dr. Leon has been suggested 3 rounds of SCT in every 4 months that would most benefit Alex’s condition and will address his brain injury.

Alex has been through so much the last few years, he’s a little fighter, who desperately wants to be able to talk!
