Story
Thank you for my visiting my page. My name is Caroline Ignatius, I'm 40 years old, living in Peterborough and I'm trying to improve the lives of people living Dementia.
I am self funded, so any support you can give will be spent solely on trying to help and reach even more people living with Dementia.
I have a day service starting shortly and long term vision - all of the details are below, on my website - www.devikacarecompany.co.uk and also on socials - FB, Insta & LinkedIn.
Devika Care Company
We are a startup company with a vision to create a purpose-built Nursing Home in Peterborough, for people living with Dementia.
My passion for great care comes from personal experience through my beautiful mum Devika's journey with Dementia, for over 12 years now and what I have experienced along the way has brought me to this point - Devika Care Company.
I believe that I have a unique concept that will revolutionise the industry and would appreciate any need support you can give, to make this dream come true. I want to do this for my loved ones, for anyone living with Dementia that requires specialist care, for their families and for the carers out there that truly care.
I want Devika Care Company to be the reason that people are no longer scared of placing their loved ones in care and I have an ambitious strategy that I wholeheartedly believe will improve the lives of people living with Dementia.
Devika Dementia Day Centre
We have identified a need for a day centre service in Peterborough, designed for people living with Dementia that require personal care and/or behavioural assistance.
Day centres make an important contribution to community awareness by acting as a preventative measure for problems caused by lack of social contact and stimuli. When set up correctly, they allow people living with Dementia to continue to lead an independent life, by creating opportunities for choice, control, independence through various activities that encourage self-esteem and self-fulfilment.
We aim to help people with Dementia stay living happily at home, for as long as possible and we plan to do this by providing -
- A safe, friendly & understanding environment
- Physical activities to suit personal capabilities
- Mentally stimulating and purposeful activities
- Sensory therapy
- Chiropody, manicure, hairdressers & massage services
- Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
- Musical sessions
- Lunch and refreshments
How Are We Different?
We aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment for people living with Dementia, that require personal care or behavioural assistance.
People living with Dementia in the community (with & without carer support) have various group activities available to attend. Once their condition reaches a stage where personal care is required or behavioural challenges occur, these options are reduced considerably. This can cause the person with Dementia to feel isolated at home and the carer becomes overwhelmed, as respite opportunities are reduced.
We want to create a Dementia Day Service, specifically for people who can no longer access the groups available for either of these reasons, with the aim to help them remain living at home for as long as possible and protect their carers wellbeing.
This will be an affordable service, costing only £35 for 5 hours with lunch, snacks, drinks and activities included. In the future, we aim to use crowdfunding and also create a partnership with the local council, to enable those from low income households to attend.
This service will be held at Castor Lodge Care Home, every Wednesday, 10am-3pm and I'm really appreciate of their support and their belief in Devika Care Company to make this a success.
