Mental health is a topic that should be relevant to each and every one of us as 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience some sort of mental health issue in their life time. In the UK we are privileged to have easy access to mental health services and we are able to receive immediate support and help for any mental health issue you may be suffering from. Even with this easy access and amazing support many people suffer in silence.
So imagine just how hard seeking help may be in a country like Bali where these services are not at all easy to access and support is very minimal. Mental health is either completely disregarded, or there are hardly any support services or resources available for those that are in desperate need of it. For people living in rural communities, the journey to receive treatment is often incredibly long and transport links throughout the islands are extremely poor.
At the end of the day if our minds are not healthy and happy how can we possibly live a happy life? I believe we should all have the chance to live the happiest life we are able to live and we should all be given the chance to have the sufficient support and resources to fight against mental health issues. After suffering with anxiety I understand the impact a mental health issue can have on your life and I want to be able to make a positive impact on someone's life and show them that there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
I have been accepted onto a 4 week Volunteer Mental Health placement in Bali this summer with SLV, where I will be taking part in a range of projects with children and young adults suffering with mental health issues, as well as teaching English.
In order to do this I will need to raise around £2000 and I will be extremely grateful for every single penny that you could possibly donate. A little would go a long way and make a huge difference to someone's life!
Thank you :)
