I've raised £1800 to fund molecular profiling for Danny Pockets

As many of you know Danny was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November 2016. It's been quite a journey… a long winter of chemotherapy, very major surgery (whipples procedure), 2 months recovery, adjuvant chemotherapy and then, heartbreakingly, a recurrence of the disease in the abdominal wall. We were told not to think about a cure, but to focus on prolonging Danny’s life, and to improve the quality of life for as long as possible. 5 year survival is 4% in the UK, 7% in US.
Despite pancreatic cancer being in the ‘hard to treat’ category, there are breakthroughs in research happening, particularly in the US. The latest treatment is becoming increasingly personalised. It starts with genetic profiling: tissue is taken from a patient, and studied at a molecular level. This allows the oncologist to understand the particular gene mutations that make up that person’s tumour, and better direct treatment.
This fund is to raise money to help pay for Molecular Profiling for Danny, which is not yet available on the NHS. We believe it is the way forward and may link into new drug trials. For further information about latest treatment I recommend http://letswinpc.org
