I'm raising £64800 to build a fit for purpose space for children with severe disability

Story

Hi.

We are parents to two delightful, disabled children.

Both of our children have significant needs that require space for them to access therapeutic support at home. And be safe in their home environments.

Their collective diagnoses include Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, OCD traits, agoraphobic and ombrophobic traits, learning disability and early life trauma.

Access to highly specialist education and crucially therapeutic support is very hard to access when you don’t have the money to pay for it. whats on offer on a local government level is not fit for our children’s needs. And could actively harm them in many cases. The grants available can cover the cost of the items themselves such as sensory integration and regulation equipment but they don’t help towards the cost of building an appropriate space for them. We don’t have space at home now for what is needed.

Our current home can’t accommodate the structure we would need to have installed for the equipment that would give them the proprioceptive and vestibular regulation they need through the day. None of the rooms in our house are big enough to allow for the equipment, either. However, we do have space to build a box on the back of the house in the garden. This space would include the steel frame and the equipment to support their needs and help them thrive.

it’s a long shot but anything you may be able to donate would get us closer to a home that is safe, and can be somewhere they could live long term. The photo we used for this fundraiser was taken at a time where our children’s needs were not as pronounced and when our son was able to walk outside. Things have changed dramatically since that time.

We’re normally the ones fundraising for other good causes whether it’s a local school library, local families in need, or an outdoor learning space or Dementia UK, Amnesty or Cancer Research but now we need your help for our family. We hate to ask, our default is just to power through and find a way as a family, but we don’t have much choice at this stage.

Please note that we know some people prefer using GoFundMe so have put our fundraiser on there too (link below) but will be transparent and add on each platform what we raise on the other so there’s no doubling up.
