Discrete is a non-profit organisation with the goal of providing free sanitary products to girls who receive free school meals. As of November 2016 almost a quarter of the Welsh population live in Poverty (The Guardian) and one in ten girls cannot afford these basic products (plan international UK). These girls who make up 10% of the child population will resort to using socks, paper towels or even missing school. Unfortunately this is a problem that could easily be solved but has not been; if this was a problem that affected the male population it would have been solved decades ago. On average a woman will spend £5000 (£250 of that is tax) on sanitary products throughout her lifetime and we believe this to be ludicrous as it is a basic need that no woman should be deprived from. Our aim is to provide schools with sanitary products that they will then distribute to young women who recieve free school meals.
