Story
We are a group of high school students given the opportunity to participate volunteer work in Tanzania in the summer of 2017. We will be going through the organisation Camps International and need to raise £4000 each to go on this life changing expedition.
Now, I know many will be wondering why you should give your hard earned cash to a bunch of teenagers. However this is as much a life changing experience for us as it is for those poverty stricken in the rural districts of Tanzania; where we will be doing our volunteer work.
Many people in Tanzania do not have access to healthcare, proper sanitation nor safe water, and fewer yet receive even the minimum amount of daily water that they need for survival. Additionally around 35% of the population do not have enough food to eat; in 2010, 68,000 children dropped out of primary school, and 66,000 children left secondary school early do to poverty and work. And its the statistics like this that make to work we will be doing all the more valuable.
We will be making a difference within the communities that need it most getting involved with projects based around the needs of each community at that time.
Projects include:
- Conservational work in Ndarakwai; expanding waterholes, removing poisonous plants, wildlife monitoring and education workshops with the local children.
- School and housing improvement in Tanga; digging classroom foundations, laying bricks, plastering, painting and decorating buildings, making classroom furniture and helping to build and renovate traditional houses for needy families.
-School improvement in Mbokomu; digging classroom foundations, laying bricks, plastering, painting and decorating buildings, making classroom furniture, painting educational murals on the classroom walls and teaching English.
Thank you for taking the time to take a look at our cause; I urge you remember that even those living in Poverty here in the UK are often still better off than those in poverty in Tanzania.
