    Story

We’re raising money to support Doc Rowe’s Archive and Collection so it can remain a vital resource for future generations.

Traditional song and custom has been the focus of Doc Rowe’s life. His voracious documenting of British customs – including an annual pilgrimage to Padstow’s May Day since 1963 – has seen him amass an enviable archive and collection which is currently housed in Whitby.

The Doc Rowe Archive and Collection is subject to private rent which Doc currently pays for with his pension, alongside generous contributions from a small number of enthusiasts through the Buy Doc A Pint scheme (more information here: http://www.docrowe.org.uk/contact/index.html)

    However, this is not sustainable.

We’re hoping to raise £4,700 to cover the rent for the Archive and Collection in 2017, to alleviate Doc’s immediate rent concerns while we work to raise the profile of the Archive and to eventually find it a secure, accessible home.

Please consider giving a one-off donation to support the Archive or better still, become a regular donor here:

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to this fundraiser. The funds raised will help to support Doc in covering the cost of the rent for the storage facility that houses the archive and collection. Many thanks also to those who regularly contribute to the cost of maintaining the archive through the Doc Rowe Collection Support Group. For more information on how you could regularly support the archive, please visit http://www.docrowe.org.uk.

You'd better have the odd £60 then, to make it up to a nice round number.

I get a lot of pleasure from researching local and social history using publicly accessible archives and I really hope you succeed in setting up a permanent home for this one.
