Story

Rachael (Debs Sister) turned 50 in December 2021 and decided to set a challenge to give something back to the Healthcare professionals of the NHS who have cared for Debs over the years.

The challenge called Do it for Debs is to raise £50,000 (for 50 years) for the Rheumatology Department at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt hospital, Gobowen, to fund a new Ultrasound Machine and to help fund a heart screening programme for people living with Lupus. Debs survived major heart surgery after Lupus attacked the lining of her heart and was undiagnosed for some time and only for the remarkable team at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital did, she survive.

Rachael called upon family and friends to challenge and to support her in this quest and so far, has completed several challenges in 2021, including 2 Sprint distance Triathlons, 1 Olympic distance Triathlon, walking 190 miles of The Shropshire Way over 15 consecutive days with nephews, Alexander and William (Deb’s sons),cycled 150km around 50 of her clients’ homes in Shropshire and completed the year with a 50 stairs 50 times challenge up the Endorph Fitness Staircase. None of these challenges did she imagine she could complete back in December 2021.

It is an incredibly worthwhile cause - our aim to ensure that more people don’t have to suffer in the way that Debs has suffered throughout her life and to raise more awareness of this little-known disease and hopefully improve earlier diagnosis.
