Story
We are cycling top to bottom of France over 10 days (15th - 24th May). We will be following the Eurovelo 1 route from Roscoff to Hendaye down the west coast. We will average 125km a day (plus many more as we are bound to get lost!)
During our time off between jobs we have worked at Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital in Nepal and are due to volunteer with DocMobile in a months time which works in Greece providing medical aid to refugees.
Like millions of other charities, these two organisation would benefit massively from any donations.
We have made this as a crowd funding page as this is the only way in which we can split any donations between the two charities. Here is a little more information about the two charities and why we have chosen them.
Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital is a small but busy hospital in the South of Nepal. It was set up to care for those patients suffering with leprosy. The hospital cares for all aspects of the disease. They provide reconstructive & amputation surgery, in-patient medical care for acute reactions, through to providing footwear and education groups in the community. The hospital relies solely on the donations given from various organisations. We were lucky enough to work with the small team of doctors, nurses and support staff who help run this hospital. We were impressed with the high level of care they provide for their patients despite the obvious lack of financial and medical resources. Any money donated will go towards equipment for continued training of staff and resources to continue providing care for patients.
DocMobile - a medical charity providing free medical care to refugees who wouldn't be able to access medical care otherwise. We are going to the island of Lesvos to volunteer for 5 weeks in June/July. We do not yet know what to expect. We plan to use the donations to provide basic medical provisions such as wound care supplies but we will assess what would be most useful once we are there.
More information about the two charities can be found on their websites http://www.nepal-leprosy.com And https://docmobile.org/en/

6 years agoThank you for all the donations. This money goes so much further than you think for these small charities We only have two days left now and 220KM. Bank holiday weekend in France means the traffic is a nightmare with multiple stop starts making finding our way that little bit harder and finding a quiet road almost impossible! After all of this is done. We have to cycle 50km back the other way to catch a flight with Ryan air. Not sure what will be the biggest challenge?!?
