Story
Dominic was a 22 year old young man who had many friends whilst growing up, however was later recognized as a high functioning autistic and found as he grew older the gulf between himself and his peers growing wider and therefore difficult to form and maintain friendships.Instead Dominic spent a lot of time alone, working with and keeping animals, and computing. Dominic loved his job working on a farm and took comfort in his responsibilities. Dominic was quiet and shy in social settings however displayed extremely high intelligence in his interactions with close family.
"Dominic’s Legacy is close to our hearts as we lost our son Dominic in February last year. He simply went to his work on the farm as he did every day, but on this particular day he was found unconscious. To this day, his death remains unexplained.
Our son was a very quiet boy who would have loved to have had friends to meet up with. He was unable to achieve this in his brief 22 years of life, and I do feel sad that I was unable to grant him this wish. It is for this reason that we have set up a charity and named it 'Dominic’s Legacy'. It is for people just like Dom (who was often lonely), who would just like to form friendships, enjoy good company and meet up for some recreation and leisure.
Our hope is that Dominic’s Legacy will provide other shy, young men and women the chance to flourish and, in Dom's memory, lead fuller and happier lives."
