Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page .

I’ll be volunteering with the Floating Doctors medical relief team in Bocas, Panama in January 2018. This is a severely deprived area of the world with little or no access to even basic healthcare, where patients can't just 'go to the hospital'. Oceans, mountains, jungles, politics and economics separate them from their fundamental human right of access to care, so we aim to go to their homes and communities, initially traveling by boats. I’ll be working with the team to provide the local population with the nursing, medical and emotional care that they desperately need. This includes better access to clean water and wound and dental care.

I’ve been a Nurse for over six years, and have loved every minute of it. I have always been touched at how resilient, brave and courageous humans can be in the face of poor health. Each year thousands of people in Bocas are struck by severe illnesses that good clinical care and education can help to avoid, and your donations will help us to achieve this.

In the past few years I’ve traveled to a lot of countries including Vietnam, Philippines, Fiji and Cuba. It was after these experiences that I found out about the Floating Doctors team and am now privileged to work alongside them. You can find out more about the excellent work they do at www.floatingdoctors.com.

As a volunteer I would be so grateful for any donations that could help with travel and accommodation, with the rest going to the Floating Doctors fund. This will help us to buy and maintain the necessary medical equipment for the local population.

I am enthusiastic, nervous; but most of all excited about this project. We have a fantastic chance to change the lives of a vulnerable and deserving population, and I hope you will help in any way that you can.

Thank you so much for reading and donating!
