I've raised £500 to help support Dominique Mcghee to travel to Uganda as a volunteer student midwife

Hello all,
My name is Dominique McGhee and I am a third-year student midwife.
I adore my chosen profession and I have been lucky enough to reach the part of my studies in which I will have the opportunity to work at an alternative trust.
After much thought I have decided to take my placement in Uganda, Africa. There are so many places around the world which need midwifery expertise, however through doing my research I feel in my heart this is somewhere I could make a real difference.
Like many developing countries Uganda has desperately high maternal mortality rates, this is often due to the lack of access to healthcare services and professionals. Although there are healthcare services available, they are often severely understaffed. In the developing world, the largest cause of maternal death is severe bleeding. 25% of deaths are a result from haemorrhaging, 15% from infection and 12% from pre-eclampsia and eclampsia. There is a desperate need for skilled attendants at delivery, this way so many needless deaths could be avoided, and children would get to grow up with their mothers.
Through the charity Knowledge for Change I have the opportunity to help those who need it with the skills I have acquired in the last three years.
As I will be working in a voluntary capacity there are costs that I will need to fund such as flights, accommodation, insurance, uniform, vaccinations.
This is where the kindness of family, friends and even strangers comes in. Any donation would be gratefully received in order to help me fund this elective placement and give me the opportunity to support and care for the women and babies in Uganda.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read.
In order to donate please...
