Weʼve raised £680 to support Kellie's About Time for Lyme campaign

    Cardiff, United Kingdom
Funded on Thursday, 5th October 2017

    Story

Kellie had already been sick for 8 years, often left bed-bound or relying on a wheelchair, before doctors were able to correctly diagnose her debilitating chronic sickness as Lyme in 2013.

Lyme disease is a global infectious illness that has been found on every continent but Antartica. Infected ticks carry and transmit bacteria that cause their hosts to suffer severe fatigue, muscle pain, cognitive confusion and digestive issues among many other symptoms, some fatal. In the UK, inadequate testing can miss nearly 50% of cases and symptoms that mimic other diseases cause large amounts of misdiagnosis.

Using her personal struggle as inspiration, Kellie co-created the About Time for Lyme campaign to improve mass awareness and prevention for the growing threat of this disease. The campaign believes that proper detection and quick treatment can save people from years of unnecessary pain. Over a decade after contracting Lyme, Kellie is spreading their message of prevention by speaking before members of Parliament, using various social media platforms and through coverage in BBC, ITV and local papers.

On October 1st, I will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon and I ask that you join me in supporting the About Time for Lyme campaign. All donations from this page will go to producing essential educational materials for promoting awareness and aiding in prevention.

Thanks for taking time to read this. Lots of love,

    Donna xx
