The Culture Crusaders was an innovative project aimed at getting young people passionate about art and heritage, helping form strong links with their identity and developing confidence, fine motor skills and team working!

Our Culture crusaders met every Thursday for the past 12 weeks, exploring their own local heritage and trialling out new art techniques. They explore different periods of history relating to the area, such as Bronze age, Roman, Medieval and Mining Heritage. We will look at myths and legends, build heritage and stories from the people. The group designed and curated their own exhibition, this helped the children engage with their heritage, empower them and result in a tangible outcome. The 'Our Roots, Our Way' exhibition consists of art work by the children, each creating their own ‘cabinet of curiosity, including aspects of their heritage which really spoke to them. In this way they were interpreting their heritage for themselves.

The Culture Crusaders project was very popular, we had 18 children every week! and the difference it has made to their lives is tremendous!
