Story
Hi, my nephew Nathan Curry was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at the age of 8 in june 2019.
he had been very poorly for some time before this and after his mam Suzy took him to the doctors several times he was eventually rushed to the RVI in Newcastle were we found out the devastating news.
he was initally admitted for 3 weeks for intensive treatment including chemo and blood transfusions and for the first 8 month could barely leave the house and was often admitted to hospital, he was also in a wheelchair as his mobility was so severly affected, he still needs the wheelchair occassionally.
We are now almost 3 years on and Nathan still has chemo every day, he is due to finish treatment August 22, the treatment hasnt been easy on him or his mam and sister often meaning rushed trips to hospital at any time of day or night and 3 day stays if he has a temperature and needing IV anti biotics.
Nathan really is a brave boy and is taking the treatment well, he is a mostly happy boy but after going thru all the treatment has recieved the news that he wont get a wish at the end of his treatment, one of the only things that have kept him going is his dream of being able to go onto the Disney Boat but as this is technically classed as a cruise (even thou its staying in the uk) the charitys involved in kids wishes can no longer do this, he is devastated and after everything he has been thru at least deserves a lovely break with his family when he finishes treatment, so he can relax and recover. the cruise stays between northern ireland, scotland and london, he would not be able to go abroad as he has a portacath fitted and it is to risky to be in a foreign country due to infection risks. The cruise is in September.
this boy has been through so much, he is now 10 years old, he has lost a lot of his childhood to cancer, he can no longer play out with his friends like he used to, he gets very tired easily, he struggles to attend school regularly but last year he started to help others and did a local cancer run and the junior great north run (in and out of his wheelchair) to raise money for the great north childrens hospital to help others in his position he really is a superstar 💛
So now can we please help him and get him the dream he deserves, we will be fundraising and doing challenges as a family, nathans mam and sister will be doing as much as they can to raise money for him.
thanks for reading, any help appreciated.
