Story
My wife Donna was diagnosed with stage four cancer of the brain on the 27th August 2018. Since then she has responded well to treatment and is a patient at the Beatson Hospital in Glasgow. However, on the 6th February 2019 she had a massive siezure, and was taken to Monklands Hospital in Airdrie. Doctors carried out a CT scan, and found another tumour at the front of her head.
We have been to see the consultant at the Hospital, and the results of Donna's CT scan show some more cancer spots peppered across the top of her head. The consultant said the cancer is very aggressive - it took just five weeks for the new tumours to grow.
I questioned the consultant about specialist treatments, like proton therapy. He said proton treatment is very good, but it's very expensive (about £35,000, depending on how long the treatment lasts). The consultant wants to try one or two more treatments , but in the meantime, he said it's our call.... I lost my Dad to stomach cancer, and only last year my young great nephew passed away from cancer - me and my children don't want to lose Donna, so we are upping the funding target in the hope that in the near future, proton therapy will be an option.
