    Story

Crimson Reflection is our own original lyrical and contemporary ballet production inspired by Irish folklore of faeries and changelings. Using an international soundtrack of contemporary classical and orchestral music we tell a story that extends that of the W.B. Yeats poem “The Stolen Child” and explores the themes of family, friendship, trust, love, betrayal, prejudice, tolerance and ultimately taking responsibility for one’s own actions, mistakes and destiny.

The ballet is set in a pre-industrial, fantasy, rural setting and primarily follows the separation, shocking reunion and reconciliation of its two protagonists; Ariel, a young woman who was kidnapped from her village as a child by a fae Queen, and Leira (the titular Crimson Reflection), who was a copy of Ariel that the Queen left in her place. The two were made to forget each other by the Queen’s magic when they were separated and only a chance meeting, caused by their friends, breaks the curse. Now aware of the Queen’s manipulations, the pair must overcome their pain and confusion and race against time to save two of their friends who have become the pawns in the Queen’s latest, and most malicious, scheme.

The cast is comprised of 4 principle women, 3 principle men, 6 to 8 ensemble performers and 5 to 6 juniors (aged 6 to 12 years old). We believe that Crimson Reflection will have appeal to a wide audience of both children and adults due to its positive and inspiring messages, fantasy style, unique soundtrack, beautiful choreography and talented performers.

Our company, Double Twist Dance, has been a self-funded company since we started 4 years ago but we know that we need additional funding to help us achieve the high standard we passionately feel this show deserves. With funding we will be able to pay for rehearsal studio hire, performers, costumes, props, venue, technical team and marketing for the production. The sooner we receive funding, the sooner we can scale up our work on Crimson Reflection and make our dream a reality.
