Story

I'm raising £80,000 to pay for the restoration of the bells in Downton St.Laurence church.

Bell ringing is a traditional activity, used to remind people that a church service is about to begin and to mark national events such as the King's coronation. Downton bells have been rung for many of these for many years.

Recently the bells have been getting more difficult to ring, so we invited the bell-hangers, White's of Appleton, to come and have a look.

They have recommended removing all the bells and the fittings, taking them away and giving them some tender loving care. When they return they will have new stays, sliders, wheels and headstocks. The biggest bell will have a new bearing. The frame will also be reinforced with two new beams.

All donations, of whatever size, are very much appreciated. Please give what you are comfortable donating.
