Story
CARAD, (Community Arts Rhayader And District,) is an independent, inclusive arts and heritage charity. We run an accredited Community Museum, Gallery, Recording Studio and Theatre building. We work with many local groups through a wide range of activities.
The Rhayader Dragon Festival is based around a large Copper Dragon sculpture, named Belrenin, made as a community project. Sculpted from recycled copper, its scales are made by people all over the world, from Brazilian street children to the New Zealand and Australian Welsh diaspora, from remote regions of China, to the Turks and Caicos Islands as well as from Rhayader to Birmingham. The scales are named or numbered and dedicated to people significant in their maker's lives.
After the success of last year’s festival and the fantastic response from the public we want to grow the festival, bringing more activities and making a fun and vibrant atmosphere that will make locals proud and visitors want to keep coming back for more.
Lots of activities are free or very cheap so that everyone can be involved - donate now to help us pay for the workshops and performers that will bring the town alive!
