Story
Super excited to have won a place to represent Chiltern Wood School in the Celebrity Superhero Triathlon (www.superheroseries.co.uk ) alongside the irrepressible Team Captain Shaun Gash!
Today I am attempting to raise awareness of conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) whilst raising funds for a wonderful school in High Wycombe.
Chiltern Wood School is a special school catering for over 200 incredible children and young people living with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities. The pupils of Chiltern Wood School and their amazing staff are the reason why I decided to overcome my Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)-related social anxiety and accepted to become Chair of Governors for 2017-18 as it was considered I had the skills to lead the Governing Board. My ASC makes it very easy to stand for making the children and young people's educational system fairer and to fight for them to be able to access all the support they need to achieve their full potential, whether their disability is visible or not.
Our school's motto is "Success through Wellbeing" for all our school community. What this means for our staff is that we promote initiatives for mental and physical health. Mental health for educational professionals in the workplace is a topic particularly important to me as my youngest sister, who was working in education, found it hard to cope with the pressure of the job. I believe this played a major part in her decision to end her life at the tender age of 25, this was 2 years ago.
At Chiltern Wood, regular physical exercise is promoted, eg with Yoga classes and individual/team challenges. For instance, several members of staff have recently completed the Brighton Marathon and our headteacher Bradley Taylor runs triathlons.
Please support us by making a donation or come and join the fun on the 18th of August (http://superheroseries.co.uk/2018-tri-spectator-info)
Many thanks,
Dr. C.

6 years agoThis was last Friday. At the swimming pool I bought some ear plugs and found suitable goggles. I managed over 500m without stopping and focussing on my breathing. So I thought Saturday would be possible: it's only 150m in a lake!

6 years agoThis was on last Wednesday... My first attempt at dipping a toe in a lake with the support of Bradley Taylor (Headteacher of Chiltern Wood School). This proved more difficult than I thought... couldn't swim more than 50m at a time... wasn't feeling I could make it on the day...

I hope the weather is bearable on the day, but at least you'll be in the water anyway! All the very best, rather you than me!
