Story

We are Drop Dead Theatre, a new internationally based theatre company made of early career artists, all of who are passionate about making a career in the industry. 100% My Type On Paper is our first show as an independent company and we can not wait to share it with the public this Summer.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of costs associated with taking a show to Fringe, and in 2024 it costs more than ever before. Between paying for accommodation, venue hire, insurance and marketing material, our current total spending comes just shy of £5000.

This show means a massive amount to us and we want as many people to see it as possible. Your donations make it possible for us to not just get to Fringe, but ensure we can continue staging exciting new work in the future.

What’s the show about I hear you ask? Well… Sammy and Clyde are on their first date. It’s cute. It’s awkward. It’s bad jokes and forced laughter. Sweaty hands and wondering who gets the next round. It’s “I really want to kiss her” and “I hope he doesn’t try to kiss me”. It’s excruciating, but that’s a first date, right? As Sammy and Clyde get to know each other again, and again, their reality slowly falls to pieces. Missed jokes become hilarious one-liners. Awkward silences become witty repartee. The customers become an audience. Everything starts watching – and Sammy and Clyde? They become disposable.

In a world where dating has become increasingly defined by social media, dating apps, and Love Island, ‘100% My Type on Paper’ poses the question- what does ‘love’ mean today?  Creeping sinisterly from realism to absurdism, this piece critiques a system that puts entertainment before authenticity, and money before lives. With dating app usage in the UK is currently at its highest ever, and shows like Love Island dominating television viewing, '100% My Type On Paper' could not be debuting at a more topical time. With the constant controversy around these shows being an ongoing issue in the media, we hope we can bring a fresh take on the toxic nature of the commodification of love in 2024.

Whatever you can give, we are so so grateful as every penny helps us get one step closer to Scotland. Thanks for taking the time to read this and we hope to see you in Edinburgh!

Love,

The Drop Dead Team
