Iʼve raised £1,392 to help build a new community sports pitch in Clapham. To help, I am running a marathon on the cliffs & beaches of the Jurassic Coast in March.

    Story

Why do we need a community sports pitch?

    1) Heathbrook is a primary school in Lambeth, South London. We want to create a professional quality, all-weather astroturf pitch for use by the children and the community around the school. In a very densely-populated borough, the school is fortunate to have a large play area. This area has the potential to become an outstanding facility for the school and local community in an area with a shortage of such provision and where poverty and deprivation are particularly high.

    2) The school has a long tradition of participating at high-quality sport including netball, football, athletics, basketball and tennis. Heathbrook is also proud to have developed a particularly active school. Its varied and energetic sports programme encourages pupils learn to enjoy sport for life – a number have even represented their country professionally.

    3) This will solve a community problem: To date 25 teams have confirmed they will use the pitch, for football, tennis, rugby, lacrosse and the list is growing. This much-needed community facility, will secure local teams, grass root clubs and other local users an outstanding pitch at a modest, attainable cost.

The area we wish to build the pitch is on the bottom right of the photo below.

Sports England are supporting the project with a £50k commitment, and Surrey County Cricket Club have said it will be a game changer in a part of London with very little quality all-weather cricket provision.

My daughter, Connie, goes to Heathbrook School, Clapham, a brilliant local school which lacks only one thing - an all-weather sports pitch. I'm raising money to help build one to benefit not only Heathbrook's kids but also the wider community who will have full access.
