Story

Mission statement: Justice for Dylan Crossey

Dylan was killed in an awful case of hit and run whilst cycling home at night with his friend Charles, on the night of 7th October 2016.

Dylan was left to die in the arms of Charles, on the road in Whitestake, South Ribble, Lancashire as the driver sped off with a smashed windscreen.

Both boys were 15 years old. The Driver has never accepted that he saw what happened or knew that night that he hit a person.

Major failings in the prosecution, where key evidence was lost or simply not collected by the police investigation allowed the driver in the trial to walk free.

Although the driver left the scene of the accident without stopping or reporting this crash to the police he was not charged with either of these imprisonable offenses.

Gaps in evidence and a now-discredited accident reconstruction report caused the case to be dismissed for death by dangerous driving.

The Driver never had to give evidence to the jury. All of the events have been covered and can be accessed in articles available in the Lancashire Evening Post.

Despite all of this Dylan’s Mum Tracet continues to fight for JUSTICE FOR DYLAN.

Five years after Dylan’s death Tracey fought the system and the Police and finally secured a full inquest, to be carried out in the presence of a jury.

The coroner recognised the questions raised by the poor quality of the police investigation and granted a week of hearings which allowed for the first time a full reconstruction of the accident.

Tracey’s solicitor was given full access to long withheld documents and evidence. As a result of shocking new evidence, the Inquest collapsed and was suspended. The case against the driver was so compelling that the coroner issued a recommendation that he be tried for Gross Negligence Manslaughter.

This is as far as we know, unprecedented in a court of law in Lancashire. Lancashire Police were then instructed to collect all evidence to be brought to the Crown Prosecution Service for a possible new conviction. Three days before Christmas 2021, the case presented to CPS was dismissed.

Tracey, Dylan’s family, his friends who are all now all turning 21 and the wider South Ribble Community need answers and as a minimum the possibility of JUSTICE FOR DYLAN.

The only way forward now is to challenge the decision of the CPS by judicial review.

This will be expensive as Tracey needs access to a barrister to support her legal team.

She must find these legal fees to stand a chance of proceeding.

The Driver and Lancashire Police have enjoyed the best state funded legal representation throughout this case, but Dylan’s mum has had no legal aid at all

This has led us – Tracey, Dylan’s family, and friends - in our desperation to seek help from the public through crowdfunding.

We would greatly appreciate any donation you can give to help us get a judicial review of this terrible injustice. Ordinary people should never be treated the way Dylan and his family have. Please help us keep fighting.
