Story
At the age of two Demi Shah contracted a nasty cough, which, unbeknown to her family, led to her being diagnosed with a number of serious illnesses. She was diagnosed with the following: Tracheomalacia, Laryngomalacia, Laryngeal Cleft, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Eczema and Severe Household Dust Mite Allergy.
The past years have involved countless trips to Sheffield Childrens Hospital, whereby she has been given numerous operations, medication and advice in order to help treat her illnesses and let her lead a normal life. So far nothing has worked. She cannot even enjoy her own home without having to deal with the harsh cough and wheezing that she has now had for the past four years. This has affected her sleep pattern, her school life and some times leaves her struggling to breathe - she is, you could say, allergic to her own home.
’Dynamite Demi’ is the nickname used by her mum, Jolene Shah, due to the fact that Demi has endured all of this at such a young age but still keeps on fighting without a fuss. I however, have given Jolene a nickname of ‘Superwoman’, because she really is.
Let me tell you about Jolene. She has three children altogether, Demi being the youngest. In her early years she lost her only brother suddenly and avoidably to Sepsis. Her mother suffered an accident which has left her disabled. Not only has she helped her mother but she single handedly cared for her three girls. With Demi’s illnesses she has to keep the house spotless and dust free, so she also maintains the cleaning of her house on a daily basis. If this wasn’t enough she went on to study a degree in Social Science whilst undertaking full time work. The reason for this was because she wanted to set a good example to her children. You must be thinking wow, how did she manage all of this? Through sheer determination and love she has for her children by wanting to provide them with the best she could.
Recently Demi was rushed to hospital on numerous occasions as she was struggling to breathe. Demi then went for another operation which Jolene thought would provide a positive outcome. But it hasn’t. Demi is now extremely poorly and it has been discovered that she now suffers with Crohns Disease, has multiple ulcers on her bowels and her immune system is attacking her body. She is being fed through a tube to provide her with enough nutrients to live and to give her bowels a rest. What more can this little girl deal with? Well she is Dynamite Demi after all and she will get through this.
The reason for this justgiving page is to help Jolene, Demi and the family. Jolene recently bought her first home and now also has a mortgage to pay. The money generated from this will help cover expenses for travel, parking and to help maintain her home for her other children and herself. At the minute she has had to take indefinite leave from work as she wants to be by her daughters bedside and is currently undergoing training to learn how to feed Demi through the tubes. She is now extremely worried about how she is going to pay for her bills, mortgage and to provide a roof over her family’s heads. Not only can the money help with the above but the money given can also be used to help buy machines to rid the air of dust in order to help Demi breathe properly.
Thank you for taking time to read this. I cannot think of anyone that deserves this help more than Jolene. She is the most kindhearted, down to earth, loving human being I know. Be like Jolene and please donate.
