Story
We would like to raise money to make a donation to the Sandra Chapman centre at James Paget hospital where the amazing team there supported and looked after my husband, Robert, for the five years he went there for treatment. The team were kind, caring and loved having a laugh and a joke whilst providing wonderful support. They were like a family to us and truly made a difference.
A little bit about the Sandra Chapman centre:
The centre was built in 1991 following a major hospital appeal. at that time £500,000 was raised in just 18 months.
Around 50 to 60 patients attend the centre each day for treatments such as chemotherapy and blood transfusion. Treatment, care and support are provided by a team of doctors and nurses with a wind range of specialised skills.
The centre enables treatments to be given on a day care basis. This means patients who previously had to stay in hospital for several days can now remain at home and in the community as much as possible.
Although Sandra Chapman centre's appeal ended in 1992, they still rely on donations to help them maintain high standards in the care and facilities they provide.
Donations to the centre are spent carefully on medical equipment, developments in their service and on improving the comfort of patients and their relatives.
