Story

The spread of Covid-19 and the ongoing lockdown has already had devastating impacts in Mukono District, Uganda and conditions will get much worse as the UK recovers. The most vulnerable (old women and children) are put at greatest risk as their access to water is increasingly cut off in an area that is already forced to share water sources with animals. The economic shutdown has left many workers and their families hungry and extremely vulnerable to the disease. Local clinics do not have the resources to combat the virus and are already becoming overwhelmed.

Shadrak Kyobe and the EACO team are supporting the community by supplying soap, hand sanitisers, handwashing buckets, food and water to the most vulnerable. They are delivering thermometers, masks and gloves to local clinics. They are engaged in risk communication and education on online networks and are providing pscychosocial support.

Without these essential supplies, many may not survive as the virus continues to spread rapidly. Remember that it is a privilege to have water piped to our homes, remember those who do not have soap and water. A tiny amount of money here has a huge impact elsewhere.
