Story

I did it! I survived the 10K! It was an incredible weekend with a brilliant atmosphere! Really proud of myself!

However Ive had so many people asking me about donating since I completed the race I thought I better open the JustGiving page back up again...

Here's a little information about my cause..

On the 15th April 2018 I am going to run 10K for the Eastbourne Survivors (I can assure you I am not a runner! The thought of running 10K is not one that fills me with joy!!). I am doing this because Eastbourne Survivors are a community support project close to my heart, the effects of childhood sexual abuse can be devastating and without help can be life long.

How do I know this? Three of my immediate family members suffer from the effects of childhood sexual abuse. Ive seen the damage it does and watched as they try to be strong and live a 'normal' life. Mainly succeeding, but not always..

Ive seen many different statistics on how many children are believed to be affected by child sex abuse, from 1 in 10, to as many as 1 in 4!! Then I think of how many other children were in my year at school and try to work out how many this would have been if these statistics were correct... its terrifying. What happens to these children? They grow up and try to get through life as best they can, carrying with them painful memories of the past.

I am so proud to say my Dad Phil and his partner Mel, with the help of many volunteers, are now running the Eastbourne Survivors a group focused on supporting victims with support groups, small closed therapeutic groups, one to one counselling and creative workshops!

Eastbourne Survivors receives no official funding and is run entirely by volunteers. They would like to be able to provide more support to the survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Donations would go to general running costs providing more counselling, therapy and training.

Here's a little more information about the group:

Eastbourne Survivors is a Self Help and Support Group open to men and women (over 16 years) and their partners.

If you're suffering the consequences of sexual abuse and want the support and understanding of other survivors, why not come and join us on the FIRST and THIRD Tuesday of every month.7.30 - 10.00pm at Brightview, 6 Saffrons Road, Eastbourne BN21 1DG
