Story

I set up and run East Dunbartonshire Cloth Nappies (EDCN)with the aim of promoting a sustainable nappy system to parents within East Dunbartonshire. EDCN provides free loan kits to parents interested in trying cloth nappies. The kits include a variety of types and bands of high quality cloth nappies and come with all essential accessories, to give people the best chance at discovering how easy cloth can be and giving them the confidence to make the switch.

90% of people who have borrowed and used EDCN loan kits have gone on to make a full or partial switch to cloth nappies. Thousands of disposable nappies will be prevented from going to landfill as a result. However, demand for the kits is high and some people have to wait a few months which can be off putting. EDCN needs another loan kit to ease this demand so that even more people can have the opportunity to try cloth nappies too.

Although cost effective over the long term, cloth nappies are expensive to buy (costing around £20 new) with around 15-20 being needed. This upfront costs is why many people will not make the switch without trying them first, which is a major barrier to to reducing plastic waste across the board.

EDCN is looking for £300 to buy a new kit, and to upgrade some older/worn nappies.

To inspire you give generaously, I am participating running 10K in September.
