    Story

The First World War claimed the lives of over 16 million people, involved over 100 countries from Africa, America, Asia, Australasia and Europe and had an impact on the lives of everyone in every town and village in our country. One hundred years later, we are all connected to the First World War, either through our own family history or because of the way it changed the history of our communities.

Here in East Lulworth we would like to commemorate the people from the village who died in the 1st World War by erecting a commemorative stone in time for the 100th anniversary of when the guns fell silent. Without their sacrifice the world would be a much different and darker place. Their lives are not forgotten nor are they taken for granted.

To help fundraise for the stone there will be a sponsored walk, which will be open to all ages and abilities. It will be from Corfe Castle to Lulworth Castle and will take place in March 2018 (date to be decided) If you would like to take part please contact Liz Maidment the Parish Clerk on 0790 9924692 or eastlulworth@dorset-aptc.gov.uk.

If you simply want to donate to this good cause rather than participate in the walk or to sponsor a walker please feel free to pledge your money by using this JustGiving site.

The walk from Corfe Castle to Lulworth Castle to raise funds for a Commemorative Stone took place on the 25th. March. The weather was perfect, no sun rain wind or SNOW. Six humans and three dogs took part in the walk which we all greatly enjoyed. We had phenomenal support from our villagers, old and new, families, friends also ex residents from near and far, and staff from the Estate. We raised the princely sum of £1,805, including £220 through the Just Giving website. We sincerely thank you all.
